Goat Project: We are sad to report the loss of Jolly, our prize buck, to a condition known as hemorrhagic septicimia. The disease is usually transmitted through contact and exacerbated by poor hygiene. We suspect that Jolly contracted the condition from one of the she-goats brought to Jolly for mating. Jolly sired over 60 kids (for project and non-project beneficiaries as well as kids to be delivered over the next few months).

WCFJC has now taken measures to ensure that the local Agricultural Extension Worker checks each goat brought to the project’s bucks for mating.
In the meantime, 30 recent trainees from our Goat Management Training Workshop are working to qualify to receive a she-goat by doing the following:
- Constructing a goat shed in the homestead at their own expense
- Planting fodder for the goat to feed on
- Planting a vegetable garden
- Constructing a pit latrine
Poultry Project: Egg production is down again this month. The decline is attributed to poor health of the poultry in some of the poultry houses as well as the normal dip in the laying cycle. The birds have all been treated and given supplementary minerals to boost egg production. We expect the numbers to increase in May.
