Goat Program:
The construction of our breeding center continues and we look forward to launching it in September. We are especially proud that the center has been designed to harvest rain water from the building roofs. Two 1,000 liter tanks and one 500 liter tank will be installed for water collection from the roof tops.

As previously indicated the center will be home to 5 100% exotic dairy she-goats and 1 100% exotic he-goat and will also serve as a training center for WCFJC beneficiaries and paying members of the public. The center will further yield the following benefits:

  • 100% exotic offspring will be distributed to WCFJC beneficiaries and will also be available for sale to the general public.
  • 100% local goats distributed to neighboring WCFJC beneficiaries will be brought to the center for breeding. The resulting cross bred does will be raised for their milk. The resulting cross bred bucks will be castrated and sold for meat.
  • Milk from the 100% exotic lactating dairy she-goats will be sold to cover center expenses.

We lost one of the first cross-bred goats in the herd to an infection called cococidiosis. Program beneficiaries have since been educated on how to avoid it. We also welcomed an additional cross bred male kid, sired by Jenny (a 100% exotic he-goat) and a local she-goat.

Poultry Program:
Day old chicks will be distributed to 9 qualifying beneficiaries on September 17th 2009. It is notable that each qualifying beneficiary successfully participated in Phase I of the poultry program and used his/her earnings to make a contribution ranging from 50% - 100% of the cost of the day old chicks that he/she will be receiving.

Hair Salon Program:
At US$ 1,317 to date (August end), the salon program is poised to surpass its 2008 earnings.

School Program:
The school boasts 92 pupils – 65 in the nursery school and 27 at primary school level. The school’s most pressing need is the purchase of land on which to construct a proper school building. At this time, the school rents a hall from the local Seventh Day Adventist Church.

The school fees collected (US$ 343 for June – August) are used to meet the salaries of the three teachers on staff.
