WCFJC News

December, 2009

In spite of the difficult global financial situation, WCFJC has continued to receive support from various sources. In 2009, funds were received from individual donors, students and faculty at the George Mason University, Fairfax Virginia, MoneyGram Global Giving and the Global Fund for Women.

Goat Program:
3 goats died during the month of December 2009. 95% of WCFJC?s goat deaths occur in Nakakulwe Bulondo. This is the village where WCFJC?s hired "goat sprayer" resides. The sprayer will be relieved of his responsibilities owing to inconsistent spraying of the animals which is one of the contributing factors to their high death rate.

WCFJC has received numerous requests to conduct training on zero-grazing for goats from community groups in the sub counties of Butagaya, Budondo, Buwenge and Busedhe.

Hair Salon Program:
In 2009 the Salon earned a total of US$ 2,112 in revenue, a 37% increase over prior year.

School Program:
The school may not have a home in 2010. The search for a new location following the landlord?s decision to take the property off the market continues.

Potential New Projects:
WCFJC beneficiaries have come a long way in their thinking about income generating projects. This month, requests were received for assistance with projects with short income generating lead times e.g. poultry, necklace making and fruit/vegetable growing. WCFJC will continue to track beneficiary interest in these initiatives and monitor participant contributions to getting those projects started.
