Goat Project: During the month of July, all the WCFJC goats were immunized against Foot and Mouth Disease. The current quarantine has put a hold on the distribution of goats to WCFJC beneficiaries.

Poultry Project:

WCFJC purchased several drinkers and feeders which we help will improve each bird’s access to food and drink and stimulate egg production.

A loss of US$ 118 was registered in July 2008. In addition to the escalating cost of feeds, the project lost 12 birds to disease. Another 43 birds were sold by a beneficiary who decided she no longer wanted to be part of the project. The individual was apprehended by the local authorities and ordered to refund the money she obtained from the illegal sale of the birds.

We note that some of our beneficiaries are beginning to feel that this project is taking far too long to yield an avalanche of profits. Our challenge now is to help them understand that businesses take a while to break-even and to encourage them to “stick with the program”, at least until December 2008 when this flock of birds will be sold off.
