WCFJC News
June, 2009
Goat Program:
During the month of June, the herd expanded by one, with the birth of a male kid. We also had a female kid still birth.
Two beneficiaries had their goats removed from them after they would not let the WCFJC extension worker spray the animals against ticks.
The members of Kisakye Women’s Group are working hard to qualify to receive a she-goat from WCFJC, by meeting WCFJC’s eligibility requirements namely,
- Construct an approved goat shed
- Plant a kitchen vegetable garden
- Plant a fodder garden for the goat
- Construct a hygienic pit latrine
- Construct an energy saving stove in the family kitchen.
Poultry Program:
Due to a general lack of availability of day-old chicks across the country, our beneficiaries will not be able to receive day-old chicks until early September. To date, a total of nine beneficiaries have met the WCFJC eligibility requirements for participation in Phase II. WCFJC will ensure that each beneficiary is responsible for a minimum of 80 birds.
Hair Salon Program:
For the first time this year, earnings were higher than the month before. We hope that this positive trend will continue for the balance of the year.

Water Program:
As mentioned in the May 2009 update, WCFJC is partnering with Butagaya Sub-County’s Local Council and the Jinja District Water Department, to obtain government funded boreholes in all communities where WCFJC has projects. At this time, efforts to raise a minimal contribution from project beneficiaries are in progress.
