Kampala Rotary Club Visit: WCFJC was privileged to host representatives from Kampala Rotary Club, led by the Club’s President, Rotarian James Serugo. Kampala Rotary Club endorsed WCFJC for a grant from The Rotary Fund, through the Pasadena Sunrise Rotary Club in California, USA. Kampala Rotary Club is responsible for seeing to it that the Rotary funds WCFJC received are used as agreed.

First Chairpersons’ Council: Beneficiary group chairpersons will meet once a month to brainstorm and exchange experiences. At the 1st meeting, chairpersons offered to help monitor each others’ projects by conducting “surprise visits” which will offer an additional level of monitoring beyond WCFJC’s current monitoring visits.

Chairpersons from L to R – Afuwa Ngobi (WCFJC), Sarah Namukose (Goat Project), Zeridah Ikaali (Goat Project), Muky Mulondo (Poultry Project), Lukiya Ntamiira (Poultry Project), Betty Kakuba (Salon Project)

Goat Project: A week long workshop on Goat Management was conducted for 30 members of a community group that WCFJC is working with for the first time. We are particularly excited about this development for two reasons: 1) It extends our reach to 30 new beneficiaries and 2) The training was conducted by our very own trainers, graduates of our Goat Management Training of Trainers Program!

Before each trainee receives a goat, they will need to meet the following requirements:

  1. Construct a goat shed in the homestead at their own expense
  2. Plant fodder for the goat to feed on
  3. Plant a vegetable garden
  4. Construct a pit latrine

As soon as our technical experts approve the above for at least 25 trainees, WCFJC will distribute 100% local does to all approved individuals.

Poultry Project: This month we launched our Poultry Awards Scheme. Cash prizes will be awarded for consistently high production. You will notice that the number of trays was much higher in March than it was in February. What did we learn? Motivation by reward can be very effective!

Hair Salon Project: WCFJC identified a plot of land that will become the home of the Hair Salon currently run out of the Betty Kakuba’s home. Betty is the Chairperson of Mwesigwa Women’s Community Group. This development allows for the separation of salon activities from Betty’s domestic activities, enabling the salon to stand as an independent income generating initiative that belongs to Mwesigwa Women’s Community Group.
