WCFJC News October, 2008
Goat Project:
During the month of October, the goat herd increased by two, with the birth
of a set of twins. Unfortunately, the Foot and Mouth Quarantine has not yet been
lifted. This has effectively paralyzed the movement of livestock in the
region.
Poultry Project: Of 60 beneficiaries in Phase One of the poultry
project, 30 have indicated an interest in participating in Phase Two, scheduled
to begin in February 2009. With the experience and knowledge gained in Phase
One, WCFJC has revised the terms of beneficiary project participation and it is
likely that only 10 of the interested beneficiaries will qualify to participate.
Two key differences between Phase One and Two are:
- The departure from group operated poultry houses, to individually
operated poultry houses and
- Instead of WCFJC managing project finances on behalf of beneficiaries,
they will each be responsible for their own income, expenses and savings.
