WCFJC Breaking News – November 3 2006

Today marks a significant occasion in the life of WCFJC. We handed out our first set of dairy goats: one he-goat and ten she-goats! Ten graduates of our Goat Management Under Zero-Grazing Program were the happy beneficiaries. The successful graduates visited the Joy Children’s Center (a goat-rearing station in another part of Uganda) in order to learn about goat-rearing on a large scale and more importantly, to collect the goats WCFJC has allocated to them. It was smiles all around.

Jolly (the first WCFJC he-goat) is an exotic dairy goat of the toggenburg breed (100%). He is only 22 months old so we hope he will help us breed a strong herd for many years to come.

We also collected ten dairy she-goats (75% - 88% exotic dairy). We expect that each she-goat will yield an average of three liters of milk a day. This will go a long way in improving the diet of WCFJC beneficiaries. We also expect our beneficiaries to sell some of the milk obtained in order to supplement their incomes.
